WhatsApp bot

While working at Talkpush I led the design and build of a chatbot for WhatsApp. Over the course of several months the project grew, was developed and adapted for the hiring needs of large multinationals like Walmart, SYKES, and Concentrix. I helped conceive the product direction, designed large parts of the standard conversation flow, and wrote the design guidelines and product roadmap.

Project scope

It was an invaluable experience to learn the different ways people communicate on WhatsApp compared to Messenger or on a website, and the product was developed with this and the technological constraints in mind. It became the first Whatsapp chatbot for recruitment at the time of launch.

Design process

I first created low fidelity wireframes to illustrate the flow of the conversation. The WhatsApp bot was designed so candidates could easily complete their whole application process natively without ever having to leave the app, answering questions in video and voice format from their smartphones. Job applicants could send images and convert audio to text using speech recognition software and natural language processing (NLP)  to support recruitment automation at every stage of the hiring process.

Integration & Security

I also worked closely with a WhatsApp Business solution provider to allow a faster and more secure integration with the company's own CRM to ensure a spam-free, engaging messaging experience. Together with the CEO and product teams, we came up with ways to initiate the conversation across multiple touch points -- whether the candidates would be coming from a website or by scanning a QR code.

This was eventually translated and localized in 3 different languages, including Spanish for one of our largest clients in Latin America, Walmart.
